October-December 2007 Updates

  • Visit CareerOneStop's Regional Economic Development site for a blueprint to Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development (WIRED). This ongoing initiative is the U.S. Department of Labor's groundbreaking approach to integrate workforce and economic development.
  • Get help paying for education with CareerOneStop's Financial Aid Advisor and Scholarship Search. Both have been updated for the 2008-09 school year. The Financial Aid Advisor helps calculate eligibility for grants and estimates the amount of family contribution. The Scholarship Search contains more than 5,000 scholarships, loans, and fellowships. Look under "Pay" in the Education + Training section of the CareerOneStop Web site to learn more.

October 2007

  • In July, America's Job Bank ceased operations. The U.S. Department of Labor created a transition Web site to help job seekers find alternative resources where they can search for jobs and post resumes. Businesses can use the site to find the best places to post jobs and search resumes. The site includes lists of state job banks, veterans and government job banks, and national private-sector job banks and portals. To find the best job banks for your needs, go to: www.jobbankinfo.org. You'll find an interactive U.S. map to quickly access your local job bank.
  • The Competency Model Clearinghouse provides the business community with a means to communicate its skill needs to educators and the workforce system in a common industry-driven framework. Check out the new features, such as additional high-growth industry models for Retail and Financial Services, as well as case-in-point stories on the redesigned Competency Model Clearinghouse.
  • The tools and technology report provides a list of cutting-edge machines, equipment, tools, and software that workers may use in specific occupations. Tools and technology is a new occupational data feature developed by O*NET. Currently, reports are available for more than 300 high-growth, in-demand occupations. Take a look at the Tools and Technology tool. We recently updated 256 occupations.
  • With the CareerOneStop redesign, we have updated our brochures and PowerPoint presentations and Newsletter. You can download and print our outreach and training materials from the Outreach and Teaching page. Also, sign up to receive our quarterly newsletter, Connections.
